Afternoon Sun, Solved: Our Work at Wahlburgers SRQ Airport

This commercial window-tinting project at Sarasota’s SRQ Airport tackled a problem most quick-service spaces don’t have to consider: a wall of west-facing glass with a runway view.

Wahlburgers at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport has a glass wall most quick-service counters would envy. It faces west, looks out over the runway, and fills the space with natural light all day. It also takes a direct hit from the Florida sun every single afternoon.

That’s the tradeoff with a space like this. Big glass means big views. It also means big heat gain, glare on every screen and seat near the window, and an AC system working overtime during the exact hours the counter is busiest.

For this commercial window tinting Sarasota airport project, Wahlburgers came to us with three specific requirements:

• Strong heat reduction and glare reduction
• Clear visibility maintained day and night
• No overly reflective or mirrored look from the exterior

Those three things don’t always go together. A lot of films that cut heat and glare hard end up dark, mirrored, or both. That’s a fine tradeoff for some buildings. It’s not what a counter with a runway view wants.

We installed 3M Night Vision 25 across the full west-facing wall, 30 panes covering roughly 150 square feet of glass. Night Vision 25 is built for exactly this kind of tradeoff. It cuts a meaningful amount of solar heat and glare without the flat, mirrored look you get from a lot of reflective films, and it holds onto clarity from both sides of the glass.

That last part mattered here more than most jobs. Wahlburgers isn’t a back office or a warehouse. It’s a small seating area where the view is part of the experience, for the handful of travelers grabbing a seat between flights. The film needed to do its job without turning the windows into a screen.

The wall now handles the worst exposure of the day, direct west sun through several hours of afternoon service, without turning the space into a greenhouse or forcing blinds down over the view. Travelers still get the runway. The counter and seating area get real relief from heat and glare. And from outside, the glass reads the way it did before, clear and inviting, not like a mirror.

It’s a good example of what commercial window tinting is supposed to do. Not a cosmetic upgrade. A functional fix for a specific, everyday problem, done in a way that doesn’t create a new one.
