What You Need to Know About Window Films For Arched Windows

Arched windows can add a beautiful touch to the overall appearance of homes and commercial buildings. Often we look at window styles like these and appreciate the look but don’t think about how they are constructed. During summertime, the heat can get rather intense and you may decide to have window film installed to block out harmful UV rays and heat – however, it is important to choose the right window film and company for these specific types of windows to avoid future issues down the road.

Window Films For Arched Windows, The Right Way

During the long and hot days of summer, the sun shines through large arched windows and many people start to consider getting them tinted to reduce heat and glare. Unfortunately, many people do not know that it’s important to choose the right company with the experience required to properly install window films that not only work properly but also last. Suncoast Window Films is an Authorized 3M Prestige Dealer with over one hundred five-star reviews from happy customers in our area. It’s important to do your research when it comes to choosing a window film company. Unlike traditional square or rectangular windows, arched windows require more expertise to ensure no damage such as cracking or shattering occurs.

How Arched Windows Are Made

Arched windows are harder to make because they are not straight cuts, rather they are curved. When these cuts are made they are not always clean meaning small chips can form along the edges, these are commonly known as “clamshell” imperfections in the glass. These imperfections are usually covered with glazing on the finished windows which makes the chips not as visible.

Why Window Films For Arched Windows Are Different

Clamshell chips in arched glass can cause weak points that, under stress, are prone to breakage. When window film is installed on the interior of arched windows heat comes through the glass before being stopped by the film. This can reduce the heat that comes into the home, however, the heat is then absorbed into the glass itself. When changes in temperature occur over different seasons throughout the year this can lead to cracks and even breakage of the glass.

Exterior Window Tinting For Arched Windows

Interior window film installation is not advised for dual-pane, impact glass, or arched windows. Window film on the inside allows the UV rays and heat to pass through before hitting the film and being sent back towards the glass. The sun passes through dual-pane windows twice which can lead to significant heat build-up between the panes.

3M’s Sun Control Window Film Prestige Exterior Series remedies this issue since it is installed on the outside of the glass and blocks the UV rays and heat before even entering your home. 3M’s Sun Control Window Film Prestige Exterior Series blocks up to 97% of infrared light and provides enhanced comfort, energy savings, and more! 3M Prestige Series films not only enhance your viewing experience but also protects your furniture and flooring.
